This is an easy-to-follow guided exercise for sending distant energy to another person or place. Ive taught this exercise and used it thousands of times myself in more than two decades of practicing and teaching Reiki, a process for sharing universal life force energy. The focus of this technique is on sending this universal energy to the other person or place for their or its highest good, and the results can be astonishing for both sender and receiver.
Many other disciplines have their own names for this practice. Some call it prayer. You may know of author and doctor Larry Dosseys books on the scientific proof supporting praying for another person. And maybe youve read of Masaru Emotos recent works showing the effects of positive thoughts on water molecules. From these studies and many others, it seems clear that directed thoughts, or energy, can have powerful effects.
Heres How To Do This Practice
You can learn this technique by yourself, sending energy to whomever or wherever you choose. Or better yet, you can practice it with another person, having him or her go into another room and taking turns sending and receiving with each other.
Begin by settling into wherever youre sitting. Let your body relax more deeply. Take several deep, long breaths, releasing slowly and evenly. Allow yourself to start feeling the energy in your body. Feel or imagine energy flowing through and around you, through every cell in your body, every part of your being. Imagine that this energy is your essential energy, the energy that connects you with this universe.
If you become aware of a place in your body where you may be holding back this flow of energy–it may feel tight or tense–just focus for a moment on that place. Let this energy flow through that place, and let your body open more to the flow of energy.
You Send Only Positive Universal Energy
Now, begin imagining you can send this energy to another person, or another place. Its important to form a clear intent and keep your focus on sending them positive, harmless energy. As long as youre sending positive universal energy, you can know its good energy which will bring only benefit and cant harm anyone.
This process isnt about trying to change, fix, or heal anyone in any way, only to send them energy for their own use. If youre sending to someone who isnt there with you, its appropriate to ask his or her higher self if its all right. If you get the feeling that you shouldnt, you may not want to, and then choose another, until you get a good feeling about it.
Your Own Body Will Tell You Its Happening
If the person youre sending to is quite sensitive to energy, they may be aware its coming to them, whether theyre in the next room or across the globe. Or they may not. It doesnt matter. Its really not our business how energy is received–only that we send it freely for the persons highest good. Send it and let go of any particular outcome.
If you think youre not really sending–like its just your imagination–check in with your own body and see what you feel. If you feel good, like youre sending nice, warm energy, then youre likely doing it. You may notice sensations arising in your own body when you send energy. These sensations can be indicators that energy is moving through your body more than usual. The more you practice this technique, the better youll get at it.
Both Sender and Receiver Benefit
Sending energy should be relaxing, and fun, and beneficial for both the sender and receiver. You can receive feedback from the recipient afterwards and find out what they felt. You may be very surprised at how well they were able to receive the energy you sent. But again, dont get hung up on them needing to validate you.
This is an inner process, and its pretty much dependent on each persons ability to transmit and receive energy. Generally, youll feel the energy more strongly when someone is consciously drawing it into their body. This opens up the flow much more from the universe. In Reiki work, we say that the person giving the energy receives the same benefit as the person receiving the energy. Its a win-win situation, as life is intended to be.
Returning to “Ordinary” Consciousness
When you do this technique on your own, you may continue sending energy as long as you want. You may want to put on some relaxing music, and just sit down and send energy to different people or places. When you feel done, you can stop. When you do stop, give yourself a moment to make sure youre back in your body, before you get up and do anything. A little bit of sending energy can take us far away from ordinary consciousness, and it can take awhile to get grounded in the body once more.
Each time you do this process, you may learn there are things you can do to enhance the flow of energy. You may access places in your body that need to open more, places that need to release pain and tension and the like. You can learn to focus on these places and imagine energy flowing more freely through them. You can feel old blocked energies releasing. And you can learn to be more of who you are in your body, while you send positive healing energy to anyone or anyplace.
